The Situation
Like many health funds, this organisation is well-run today, with strong trust, clear purpose, and a solid operating foundation.
But the Executive Leadership Team had a growing concern: “Are we actually ready for what’s coming next?”
They could see the pressures building across the system, ageing, chronic disease, affordability, digital expectations, but lacked a clear, shared view of:

The Shift
Through our PHI FACTORS™ Leadership Lab, we changed how the leadership team saw their business in the context of the future system. Four things happened.
From General Awareness → Precise Strategic Focus
Before the session, leaders knew “a lot is changing”. After the session, they had clarity on where to focus first.
Overall readiness was assessed at ~55% readiness, highlighting a meaningful gap between current strengths and future system demands. The biggest exposures were clearly surfaced, particularly:
- Ageing and population health
- System influence
- Prevention and long-term value
Instead of broad discussion, the ELT left with a prioritised view of where risk and opportunity sit.
From Abstract Risk → Tangible Consequences
By exploring the impact of inaction, leaders could clearly see what happens if nothing changes:
This reframed the conversation from: “Should we act?” to “What happens if we don’t?” That shift alone created urgency and alignment.
From Alignment → Actionable Direction
The biggest value was alignment at the leadership level on what to do next. The session surfaced four structural tensions holding progress back:
These became the foundation for defining clearer innovation and investment guardrails, translating long-term scenarios into near-term priorities, and designing how the organisation protects capacity to execute.
From Confidence → Constructive Tension
One of the most valuable outcomes was creating healthy tension in the room. The organisation entered with confidence, and rightly so. But the session made something clear: Current strength does not guarantee future relevance. Leaders left with a more balanced view:

The Outcome
By the end of the Leadership Lab, the ELT had:
- A clear, shared view of future risks and opportunities
- Alignment on where to focus, and why it matters now
- A practical pathway to move from insight to execution
- Greater confidence in making long-term strategic decisions under uncertainty
Most importantly, they moved from: “We know the system is changing” to “We know what that means for us, and what we need to do next.”
